brimeetsbooks: teachingliteracy: redwinesuccess: This was my FAVORITE book as a child! It’s about a princess named Elizabeth (that’s me!) who wanted to marry Prince Ronald. A dragon came and stole her prince and burned all of her clothing so she was forced to wear a paper bag (hence the title). Elizabeth chases the dragon and challenges him to completely an arduous task that ends up tiring him out, at which point she rescues her love. He tells her she isn’t pretty enough now that she’s not looking like a princess and she leaves his sorry butt and goes off to live her own life. I think it’s incredibly empowering and a great message. I’d love to dress up as the Paper Bag Princess one Halloween!  One of my top 5 favorite books of all times. She doesn’t even need him at all!
